Safe Sitter® Program

The Johnsburg Police Department is proud to offer the Safe Sitter® Babysitting Program, a nationally recognized, medically accurate course designed to prepare young teens to stay home alone, supervise younger siblings, and babysit safely.

This hands-on course teaches students how, why, and where injuries can occur—and, more importantly, how to prevent them. Participants gain confidence through practical instruction and real-life scenarios, equipping them to respond effectively in emergency situations.

During the course, students will learn:

  • Basic first aid and injury prevention
  • Infant and child choking rescue techniques
  • CPR fundamentals
  • Safe child care practices based on age and development
  • Behavior management strategies
  • Basic business skills for babysitting

Students who successfully complete the program will receive a Safe Sitter® completion card, demonstrating their ability to apply these skills in real-world situations.
