The Johnsburg Police Department is proud to offer the Safe@Home by Safe Sitter® Program, designed to help younger students take their first steps toward independence in a safe and responsible way.

This introductory course is tailored for students in grades 4–6 and prepares them to stay home alone for short periods of time. The program focuses on building awareness, decision-making skills, and confidence through age-appropriate instruction.

The Safe@Home course is a 90-minute, instructor-led program that can be taught by trained facilitators and is structured to engage preteens through interactive learning.

During the program, students will learn:

  • How to practice safe habits when home alone
  • How to prevent unsafe situations
  • How to respond to common emergencies, including power outages and severe weather
  • A basic system for assessing injuries and illnesses using the Safe Sitter® First Aid Chart

A Safe@Home student booklet is required for each participant and reinforces the concepts taught during the course.
