Coming Winter 2026
The Citizens Police Academy is designed for adult residents and community members who want a better understanding of the Johnsburg Police Department and modern police operations.
This program provides a behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement through interactive presentations, demonstrations, and discussions led by Johnsburg officers and public safety professionals.
Participants may learn about:
Patrol operations

Traffic enforcement
Crime scene response
Specialized units
Community policing
Officer training and equipment
The Citizens Police Academy is not designed to train participants to become police officers. Instead, it is intended to promote transparency, encourage communication, and strengthen trust between the police department and the community.

Youth Police Academy
The Youth Police Academy is a free, hands-on program for young people ages 13–17 who are interested in law enforcement, public safety, leadership, or community service.
Participants receive an inside look at police work while building confidence, teamwork, communication skills, and respect for public service.

SWAT Team presentation

Presentation by McHenry Township Fire Protection District
Mentorship from local officers
The Youth Police Academy is designed to be educational, structured, and engaging. It gives participants a realistic and positive introduction to law enforcement while helping them develop life skills that extend beyond the academy.
