Village of Johnsburg Police Department
The Johnsburg Police Department is proud to announce the transition of its former Police Explorer Post into the Public Safety Cadets Program.
This updated youth development program is scheduled to begin in August 2026 and will provide young men and women with hands-on learning, mentorship, leadership development, and real-world exposure to law enforcement and public safety.
Preparing Young Adults to Serve and Lead
The Public Safety Cadets Program is designed for motivated young adults ages 14 to 20 who have an interest in law enforcement, public service, leadership, and community involvement.
Cadets will learn about the law enforcement profession through structured training, practical activities, mentorship from police officers, and participation in community events.
Program Highlights
Cadets may have the opportunity to participate in:
- Law enforcement and public safety training
- Patrol procedure instruction
- Traffic and crowd control support
- First aid and emergency preparedness topics
- Community service events
- Leadership development
- Scenario-based training
- Department and community outreach programs
Community Service and Events
Building on the strong foundation of the former Explorer Post, Public Safety Cadets will continue the tradition of service to the Village of Johnsburg.
Cadets may assist with events such as parades, school functions, special events, department initiatives, and other community activities where youth volunteers can safely support police department operations under proper supervision.
Mentorship, Character, and Leadership
The program emphasizes responsibility, teamwork, discipline, ethical decision-making, physical fitness, and respect for the law and the community.
Cadets will work alongside experienced officers and mentors who are committed to helping young adults better understand the challenges and rewards of a career in law enforcement.

Prospective cadets, as well as parents or guardians of interested youth, are encouraged to complete our online Interest Form. Submitting the form does not obligate you to join the program, but it will allow the Johnsburg Police Department to provide updates regarding enrollment, orientation meetings, application availability, and important program announcements.
