Pistakee Yacht Club Litigation - Update
False statements are being circulated on social media this week following an erroneous post made by the Pistakee Yacht Club regarding the amount of attorney’s fees the Village spent in defense of the lawsuit pursued by the Yacht Club against the Village. The posts, which grossly overstate those expenses to be more than $100,000, are being made despite the invoices having been provided by the Village in response to a FOIA request. As was previously communicated, the Village’s legal expenses to date are less than $2,000, which is supported by the invoices provided, yet the Yacht Club and others continue to disseminate false information. For further clarification regarding the matter, click here for a copy of the invoices with details regarding the calculations.
The initial lawsuit was filed by the Yacht Club in October of 2023 followed by a new complaint filed on August 20, 2024, which was dismissed on December 10, 2024. On January 3, 2025 the Yacht Club filed yet another complaint. It is disheartening that despite the Village’s repeated attempts to reach an amicable resolution with the Yacht Club, their representatives have chosen a path of litigation.
