REAL ID Clarification! Do You Need a REAL ID?
To accommodate the recent surge in demand, Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias introduced a new designated “Get A REAL ID” portal on the homepage of its website ilsos.gov.
This enables Illinoisans to determine:
- if they need a REAL ID before the May 7 federal enforcement period begins; and
- how to find a walk-in location or schedule an appointment near them.

If you have any questions, please reach out to outreach@ilsos.gov for more information. To accommodate the recent surge, Secretary Giannoulias introduced a new designated “Get A REAL ID” portal at realid.ilsos.gov.
