Honoring and Remembering
Initially meant to celebrate world peace and the end of World War I, Veterans Day has evolved into a holiday honoring current and former members of the United States Armed Forces. The true Warrior fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him. On this Veterans Day, let us remember the service of our veterans, and let us renew our national promise to fulfill our sacred obligations to our veterans and their families who have sacrificed so much so that we can live free. Start today by recognizing all those among us who have been a part of the great brotherhood and sisterhood we call the U.S. Military - our veterans, active-duty service members, guardsmen and reservists. It is their service and sacrifice that has kept our country safe and free. Veterans Day gives Americans the opportunity to celebrate the bravery and sacrifice of all U.S. Veterans. Wishing you a Happy and Safe Veterans Day from President Ed Hettermann, the Village of Johnsburg Board of Trustees & Staff.

Church Street Realignment Project - East of Johnsburg Rd - (1716 - 1814 Block)
Church Street (between N. Johnsburg Road and Sunnyside Beach Drive) is currently open, final surface paving is complete along with shoulder gravel and landscaping stabilization. Anticipated look ahead involves striping, crosswalk installation and minor concrete work (weather permitting).
Sunnyside Beach Road Improvement Project
Anticipated adjusted look ahead schedule (weather permitting); today November 10th Sunnyside Beach Dr roadway specific work includes Milling operations until Tuesday (11/14/2023). This will be followed by cement stabilization process; this process involves spreading a thin layer of a cement-like material on the roadway and utilizing specialized machinery to mix. They will begin at both Sunnyside Beach Dr points (1300 Block and 1800 Block) meeting at Church St intersection. Awarded Contractor (Lenny Hoffman Excavating, Inc.) will be making sure that traffic can move in and out of the neighborhood as they go, process does involve a moving road-closure. What this means is that for about an hour, as the crew is moving, access to either your parking spot or driveway will be limited or closed. There will be lots of signage, caution tape, and contractor notification, when this is going to occur. While this is an invasive process, it is only anticipated to take 1-2 days to complete (Wednesday 11/15 and Thursday 11/16). All that is asked is that while driving and you see the gray power on the ground, please don’t drive on it. Once the cement is mixed in and the ground; regraded and compacted, you will be able to drive on it like normal. This will be by the end of the day. First layer of asphalt next Friday (11/17/2023). Most likely will be working on Saturday for storm sewer structure adjustments in the roadway for Monday and/or Tuesday (11/20 and 11/21) should have surface course. This may cause residents to have ingress and egress via the N Riverview Dr. or Church St. access points for residents along Sunnyside Beach Dr. Click here for further information and temporary alterative parking available.
2023 Road Resurfacing Program
The 2023 Road Resurfacing Program project look ahead includes striping and markings, along with shoulder gravel and landscaping stabilization. Construction activities will be occurring throughout the allocated project location (approx. 2.5 miles), completion which is anticipated in Mid-November 2023. The Contractor (Peter Baker & Son Co.) is currently scheduled to work Monday – Friday between the hours of 7:00am – 5:00pm. The alternative route at 1100 block of River Terrace gate will be open for access and traffic flow.
Road Construction Announcement
During construction hours please expect dirt, dust and noise from the construction operations. Minor delays and inconveniences may be experienced. Signage will be in place to guide ingress and egress. Please proceed cautiously when traveling through the construction zone. We apologize for any inconvenience. If you have further questions or concerns, please contact the Village Hall at 815-385-6023. Watch for more updates as more information becomes available.
