e-Blast - Memorial Day Weekend
Honoring & Remembering (Offices Closed Monday)
Wishing you a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend from President Ed Hettermann, the Village of Johnsburg Board of Trustees & Staff. Thank You to all that gave some and some that gave all. Village offices will be closing at 4:00p.m. on Friday, May 27th and will re-open on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 in observance of Memorial Day.
Honoring Memorial Day
Memorial Day in Johnsburg is a patriotic event like no other. Gather your family and join fellow friends and neighbors to honor veterans, both past and present on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30th. Plan to be on the bridge sidewalk by 8:30a.m. to enjoy the patriotic performances. At the Memorial Day ceremony since September 11, 2001 we also honor our first responders, fire fighters, police officers and paramedics for their courage and sacrifices. The Johnsburg VFW will conduct the opening ceremony at 9:00a.m. with comments and introductions by the Village President, Edwin Hettermann at the Waterfront Hotel & Marina riverfront patio by the Chapel Hill Bridge. A river wreath ceremony will follow to honor those lost at sea during naval battles. After the events conclude at the Waterfront Hotel & Marina, a parade will proceed to the Johnsburg Community Club’s Armed Forces Memorial for a concluding ceremony. The parade will travel along Chapel Hill Road through the roundabout to St. John’s Avenue and end at Rescue Squad Memorial Park. The concluding ceremony will take place immediately following the parade. Antique and military vehicles will also be on display.
Stick around for the picnic, food and donations are being provided by Johnsburg residents and business owners. Anyone wishing to donate to this patriotic event can do so by dropping a check off at the Village Hall made out to the Johnsburg VFW Post 11496. For more information and parade applications, email geobraun42@gmail.com or george-braun@comcast.net

Crews will make one pass through each subdivision; therefore, any branches that are not placed by the road when they go by will not be picked up at a later time. All branches must be a minimum of six (6) feet in length (longer limbs travel more safely through chipper) and no greater than 6 inches in diameter. They must be placed with their cut ends pointed towards the road in a neat, orderly and manageable pile. Please stack brush into multiple manageable piles; avoid making one large pile. Branches that cannot be put through the chipper safely will not be taken. Evergreen cuttings must be kept separate from other tree branches and will be picked up separately. This service is being provided for larger branches generated from trimming or storm damage and is not intended for disposal of whole trees that have been removed.
