9 Reasons for Moving to the Suburbs in 2022
If you have lived in the city and are tired of limited space or the hustle and bustle, you may have asked yourself: “Should I move to the suburbs?”
The answer may be a loaded one. There is a lot to love about city life, but a relocation to a quiet, community-focused suburb is often a great way to relieve stress and take in a breath of fresh air.
With 2022 well underway, it may be time to make the change. Let’s take a look at nine reasons why moving to the suburbs is the right choice for this year.
1. More Room
Why do people move to the suburbs? One of the biggest reasons is space and square footage. The city is full of cramped apartments, converted lofts, and a small footprint for individual living quarters. In the suburbs, apartments, townhomes, and houses feature open land, big backyards, and wide-open spaces.
2. Affordability
If you live in the city, chances are your studio apartment costs nearly as much as a one or two-bedroom residence in the suburbs. Housing cost is generally higher in the city, but so are amenities like food, shopping, nightlife, and gas for your vehicle (if you can even afford to park!)
3. Peace and Quiet
Cities are always loud with sirens blaring, people yelling, and cars traveling past. In the suburbs, you can choose a quiet neighborhood and enjoy some relaxation after a long hard day of work.
4. Safety
There is no question that crime can happen anywhere. However, cities are highly populated areas and often have higher crime rates than suburban communities. Many suburbs around the state are recognized for a low amount of crime, providing a safe place for you and your family to live.
5. A Sense of Community
The city is constantly changing and you will pass strangers every day. In local villages and cities, you find a sense of neighborliness and have the opportunity to be part of a community. This is found at local businesses, at community functions, and through municipal events.
6. Good Schools
Education is critical for community development and many suburbs offer top-rated schools for students to learn. With families settling in local communities, kids can also make lasting friendships with other students. Even for those moving to the suburbs without children, better schools can often lead to higher property values.
7. Access to Food
A major issue for many urban cities is the lack of nearby grocery stores. Poor nutrition is directly related to this problem. Suburban communities often have many grocery options to choose from that provide fresh produce, meat and seafood, dairy, household goods, and more.
8. More Recreational Opportunities
While urban infrastructure does offer some green space, there is nothing quite like the available recreational activities you can enjoy in the suburbs. For example, suburban areas have beautiful lakes for water sports, cycling trails, athletic fields for football, baseball, and track, as well as many other parks and playgrounds to explore.
9. A Greater Say in Your Community
With so many people in the city, it is hard to truly make an impact on your community. In a suburb, you can have a say in economic growth and the way finances are used. You can even be elected or appointed to make those important community decisions on behalf of constituents.
